Chebyshev 5-element High-Pass
Broadcast Interference Filter
Kit

If you experience problems with AM Broadcast Band signals bleeding into the receiver of your ham radio... this is the filter for you!  This filter works great with the Tiny-Tornado, "71", Rock-Mite, FOXX-3, Pixie 2, and Rock-Mite kits.  Actually, it works great with ANY QRP rig.

This Chebyshev 5-element High-Pass filter is a classic design that does an excellent job of filtering out AM Broadcast Band interference.  I don't have much of a problem in my area but some people who live near a high-power AM station have trouble with interference.  Insert this little filter between your rig and your antenna and it all goes away.

This filter has a design cut off frequency of 3.49 MHz.   This filter works on 80-meter or above (160-meters is attenuated) and has extremely low insertion loss.  It is designed for 50 ohms in and out.

Please see the Kits & Parts page for ordering details.

This kit consists of two toroid cores, capacitors, magnet wire, and an assembly manual.  The filter can be built inside the enclosure of an existing rig or as a stand-alone filter between your rig and antenna to use with any of your QRP rigs.

The following photos are only examples of how you can build the kit.  As long as you assemble the parts according to the schematic and manual you can build it any way you like.

This is a photo of the prototype,  It is one example of how you can build the High-Pass Filter.  I've mounted the components to a piece of PC board material and assembled the components free-form style using the capacitor leads to provide strength to the circuit.

Copper clad PC board material and BNC connectors are not included in the kit.

Here you see another method of enclosing the filter.  This time I used a piece of 1/2" PVC and built the filter inside.  The components are still assembled free-form style.

An alternative method would be to build the filter onto a piece of perf board or Manhattan style.

PVC parts and BNC connectors are not included in the kit.
