KG6CYN Experimenters DDS VFO
Built by KA8MAV

Check out this new DDS VFO by Trevor, KG6CYN.  It's based on the Analog Devices AD9850 DDS VFO chip and the AT89C52 microprocessor.

(Note: This is a prototype.  The microprocessor in the final version will be the AT89S8252.)

KA8MAV RF Probe 
(Complete with schematic and building tips.)

This is the RF Probe I built for the Elmer 101 (2001) Course.  It's no secret I like to make things "tiny".  As with most projects, I always have trouble finding just the right enclosure.  This was no exception.  I wanted something small, metal, and with a point on one end.  I looked and looked... but couldn't find the "perfect" enclosure.  While I was sitting at my desk thinking... and staring at my straight key... I saw something.  There... right in front of me was the answer.  An 1/8" Shielded Phono Plug!

After building my other RF probe using a 1N34A diode which I also use in some of my Crystal Radios... I couldn't resist building an RF probe using a VINTAGE Italian Crystal Detector complete with a real chunk of galena and cats whisker.

Pixie 2 QRPp CW Transceiver - 
KA8MAV

The Pixie 2 is a tiny HF CW transceiver, with a standard two transistor transmitter. It's a Colpitts oscillator, left running, and a keyed power amplifier. There is no external mixer used to feed the audio amplifier. Instead, the mixing is done at the final amplifier itself with the resulting audio taken off the emitter.

Permeability Tuned Oscillator (PTO) - WA6OTP

This Permeability Tuned Oscillator Kit gives flexibility
to your radio projects.  It will tune over a wide range
500 kc +.  About 13 kc per revolution of the tuning dial.
You can add this to your simple transmitter or direct
conversion receiver and not be rock bound.

The WA1FFL direct-digital VFO

This DDS VFO is based on the Analog Devices AD9835 DDS chip.  There was an article about this kit in the January 2002 issue of QST Magazine.  I decided to do without the microprocessor that comes with the kit so I could experiment with the AD9835.  I'm planning on initially using my PC's parallel port to control the DDS.
